Assigning Matches to People

Last updated: October 22, 2026

On a busy match day, every pitch has someone at the scorer's table. Match assignments let you say who looks after which match: each person sees My matches at a glance, and a volunteer can be limited to entering results for their own matches only.

Match assignments are part of the Premium plan. On other plans the controls are shown locked and link to Plans. See Understanding Plans.

Assigning matches#

Anyone on your organiser team, administrators and results editors alike, can be assigned to a match, and a match can have several people (two table officials, or a shift change at half-time).

Many matches at once#

  1. Open Matches. To give someone a whole pitch, filter by that venue first.
  2. Tick the matches, or tick a matchday's box to select all of its matches.
  3. In the selection bar, click Assign to…, pick one or more people and click Assign.

Assign to… only ever adds people. Anyone already assigned stays assigned. To take people off, select the matches and use Unassign…: it removes only the people you pick.

One match#

Open the match in the Match Centre. Under Schedule, the Assigned to chips list your organiser team: click a name to assign or unassign them. It saves straight away; you don't need to press Save match.

Seeing who is assigned#

As soon as a match on the page has someone assigned, the Matches list shows an Assigned to column with the initials of the people on each match (the first three, then "+2" and so on). Hover over them to see the names. On a phone the initials sit next to the venue.

A results editor limited to their own matches sees only the colleagues who share a match with them, since their own initials would be on every row.

My matches#

As soon as anything is assigned to you, a My matches button appears next to the status tabs. Click it to see only your matches; click it again to see everything. The link in your browser keeps the filter, so you can bookmark it.

Administrators also get an Anyone assigned filter: pick a person to see their matches, or Not assigned to find matches nobody is looking after yet.

Only the matches assigned to them#

A results editor can be limited to the matches you assign to them. In System → Admin Users, switch on Only assigned matches in their row. You can also tick Only the matches assigned to them when you invite a new results editor.

With the switch on, that person:

  • Sees only their assigned matches on the Matches page. The totals, the filters and the live strip count only their matches.
  • Can enter results, use Live mode and open the Match Centre for those matches, and no others. Other matches don't appear anywhere, and a link to one shows "not found".
  • Can't record a decision between level teams in a group, because that decides a whole group rather than one match.

If you switch it on for someone with nothing assigned yet, the page warns you: they will see no matches until you assign some. The Settings column also shows how many matches each person has, with a link to the Matches list filtered to them.

If you take a match away from someone while they are scoring it, their next save is refused. In Live mode their device keeps the unsent changes and shows Try again and Discard, so nothing is lost silently.

Switching the person to Administrator turns the limit off.

The assignment email#

People get one email listing the matches newly assigned to them, about 10 to 15 minutes after the last assignment, so assigning a whole matchday in several clicks sends a single email. It lists each match with its date, time, venue and stage, links straight to My matches, and is written in the person's own language.

No email is sent when you assign yourself, for matches that are already finished, or when matches are unassigned again before the email goes out.

Seasons#

If your tournament has several seasons, the organiser team is shared by all of them, and so is the Only assigned matches switch. Assignments themselves belong to the matches of each season.

If the tournament is not on Premium#

A season that starts on a lower plan, or a tournament whose Premium access ends, keeps its existing assignments visible but can't add new ones. The Only assigned matches limit keeps working: a limit on what a volunteer can do never lifts because of billing. You can always switch it off or unassign people.

FAQ#

Can I assign a whole venue or division instead of single matches? Filter the Matches list by that venue or division, select all, and use Assign to…. Assignments stay on the matches, so they don't follow a match that moves to another pitch.

Do assignments survive regenerating matches? Yes. When you regenerate on the Structure page, matches that keep the same pairing keep their assignees (and their referees), and nobody is emailed again.

Can integrations assign matches through the API? Yes. An API key with members:read can list the organiser team, and with matches:write as well it can assign or unassign people by email (adding people needs Premium). People must already be on your organiser team; the API never sends invitations.
