Venue Time Slots

Last updated: August 9, 2026

Time slots are how you tell MyCup when each of your venues is actually free. Everything else in scheduling is built on them: the schedule grid draws its columns from them, auto-fill can only use time you have opened, and match duration comes from them.

Find them at Venues → Time slots.

This page is optional. Time slots exist to make automatic scheduling possible. If you set kick-off times by hand on the Matches page — which works for any tournament, and is usually quickest for a single venue — you can skip all of this. Nothing else in MyCup depends on it.

What a time slot is#

One row = one venue, on one date, open from a start time to an end time, divided into equal slots.

Field What it means
Venue Which pitch, court or hall
Date A single day. A three-day tournament is three rows per venue
Opens / Closes The stretch of that day the venue is yours
Match length How long one match occupies the venue. 1-240 minutes; a longer value snaps back to 240
Gap between Changeover time between matches — not part of the match itself. 0-120 minutes
Only these divisions Optional. Leave unticked to let any division use this venue

Match length is the single source of truth for how long a match takes. The periods and period duration in Tournament Settings drive the match-day clock in the Match Centre; they deliberately do not feed scheduling. If your games are 2 × 20 minutes but you allow 50 minutes per fixture at the venue, set Match length: 50.

How many matches fit#

The gap sits between matches, not after the last one. A venue open 09:00–12:00 with 40-minute matches and a 5-minute gap fits four matches: 09:00, 09:45, 10:30, 11:15.

Setting up several venues at once#

The Set up several venues wizard is the fast path: pick your days, tick your venues, set the hours once, and it writes a time slot for every venue on every day.

  1. Days — defaults to your tournament's own dates, so there is usually nothing to type.
  2. Venues and times — tick venues, set opening hours, match length and gap.
  3. Confirm — shows exactly what it will create, including the kick-off times one day produces.

Re-running the wizard never stacks duplicates on top of existing rows: anything that would overlap a time slot you already have is skipped.

A break in the middle of the day#

Tick Pause in the middle of the day and give it a from and a to. Each day is then written as two time slots, one either side of the pause, and nothing can be scheduled in between — there is simply no slot there.

Use it for lunch, a prize-giving, or pitch maintenance. A stretch too short to hold a single match is dropped rather than created as a slot nothing can use.

A break is not the same as Gap between. The gap applies between every pair of matches all day; the pause happens once.

Fine-tuning a single venue#

Each venue has its own Add button and its rows have Edit and Remove. Use this for the real-world exceptions the wizard cannot know about — one pitch that is only free after 14:00 on the Saturday, or a hall you lose for an hour.

You can have as many time slots per venue per day as you like, as long as they do not overlap. Slots that touch exactly (one ending at 12:30, the next starting at 12:30) are fine.

What the grid's column headers tell you#

Each venue column on the schedule grid is headed with the venue's full name and, under it, that day's settings — for example 40 min + 5 min gap, or 40 min · no gap. Read it as "matches here are 40 minutes, and the pitch rests 5 minutes between them", so a 09:00 match is followed by one at 09:45.

Venue names are never truncated. A long one wraps onto as many lines as it needs, because "Parque Desportivo de Ramalde - Campo 1" and "- Campo 2" are the same string up to any ellipsis, and sending a team to the wrong pitch is the cost of guessing.

Restricting a venue to certain divisions#

Tick Only these divisions on a time slot to reserve that venue's time for particular age groups — this is how you keep the youngest on the smaller pitches.

Every row on the listing says which it is: the divisions it is reserved for, or Any division when it is open to everyone. An unrestricted slot says so rather than staying silent, so "open to all" never looks like "I forgot to set this".

Setting divisions on many slots at once#

"The youngest play on the small pitches" is a sentence about a dozen time slots, not one. Tick the slots on the listing, then Set divisions in the bar that appears — choose the divisions and apply them to the whole selection in one go. Select all takes every slot in the tournament.

Leaving every division unticked sets those slots back to Any division, so the same action both applies and clears a restriction.

Either restriction is visible on the schedule grid: filter to a division and any slot it may not use is hatched out, with the reason on hover. See Reading the grid when you filter by division.

This is the venue's view: "this pitch is for these divisions". There is also a division's view — "this division plays over here" — which you set on the division itself. See Automatic Scheduling.

Clearing everything#

Clear all time slots removes every time slot in one action, and takes the schedule down with it: matches lose their kick-off and venue and return to the unplaced list. The matches themselves are not deleted.

The confirmation tells you how many matches that affects before you commit. Pinned matches keep their kick-off — but they will not appear on the schedule grid until you add time slots covering them again.

Common problems#

Symptom Cause
The schedule grid says there is nothing to show No time slots for the day you are looking at
Auto-fill leaves matches unplaced with "no free slot left" Not enough open venue time — extend the hours, add a venue, or shorten the match length
A division's matches are all unplaced A time slot restriction, or a venue assignment on the division, leaves them nowhere to play
Calendar downloads show the wrong end time Match length on the covering time slot is not what you expect
